Yup, pretty amazing how stuff happens.
i had seen that once before. i've always been scared about guys getting hit with skates in the neck area. i wish they could invent something the players would actually consider wearing.

What happened to him? A Blackhawk player had that happen last year..Rene Borque. Borque hasn't been the same since.

These were made manditory after that incident for all kids that play.
Juniors must have a helmet with eye shield and NHL only require a helmet.

)Those guy's are nuts. Then you get to the old black and white games and the goalie barely has any protection at all. Remember Chevers mask? The Flyers of the '70s were the bullies. They would not stand a chance at today's game. Back then you never even heard of a concussion, and those boneheads didn't even wear a helmet.
I personally don't like how physical the game has gotten.

this is no different than anything else. you couldn't get the nascar drivers to wear neck protection until somebody died from it. it will have to be the same with hockey.

Those skates are as sharp as our knives.
When I was in highschool, I played defense. I got cut in the arm pretty good and it cut deep.
I cannot imagine being cut in the neck like that. Gave me the shivers

I vaguely remember that cut, but don't remember the outcome.
I think the more protection you have the bolder you get. That's why you see the rash of concussions. I remember when goalies didn't have a mask AT ALL. (Glen Hall, Gump Worsley etc.)
They couldn't do that today obviously, but they just played different back then, and it sure seemed like there were fewer injuries. Craig Mctavish never wore a helmet, I think he was the last grandfathered in player who had the option.... how many games did he miss? Not many.
